EMITT 2019 opens to the World

In front of an audience of VIP guests, ministers, travel industry experts, and press, the ribbon was cut and EMITT 2019 was officially announced open today.

Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, speaking at the opening ceremony, said, “Exhibitions are truly important events that bring together all industry players and professionals.

“At EMITT, we can meet with shareholders, clients and sector associations on one platform. The show enables us to discover more about the latest news and trends shaping the travel industry and where the market is headed in the future. EMITT therefore gives us the chance to really achieve the sector’s goals,” continued Mr Ersoy.

The East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel exhibition serves as a major industry gathering – one of the top four events of its kind worldwide – and this year is no exception.

EMITT 2019 opened today with a packed line-up of over 1,100 destinations, tour operators, and other travel service providers presenting their opportunities at Istanbul’s TUYAP Centre for travel agents, tour operators, and tourists alike.

This year, the exhibition has grown 25% in terms of exhibitors and is expecting more than 57,000 visitors. Hacer Aydın, Event Director for ITE Turkey, the organisers of EMITT, commented, “This year, new companies from Finland, Poland and Thailand will exhibit for the first time, as well as Indonesia and Malta joining a whole host of countries attending at ministerial level.

“We continue our tradition of bringing together tourism sector representatives and professionals from all over the world. We are organising the Hosted Buyer (invited tour operator) Programme, where we will host nearly 700 tour operators from more than 100 countries. In January 2018, we broke a record with more than 7,000 approved appointments. We aim to top this number, leading to new investments and partnerships,” Aydın added.

Kicking off EMITT’s exciting event programme today was the EMITT FORUM with a discussion on the Turkish tourism industry, followed by a session on travel trends and closing the day’s events was EMITT MARKET ME, which looked into the importance of destination marketing for local development and tourism.

Over the next few days there’ll be plenty more sessions on the nuances of the global and regional travel industry, as well as seven entire halls packed with exhibitors showcasing their travel opportunities.
