Chhay Areng Valley

Cheay Areng Valley, located in the Central Cardamom Protected Forest and in Thmor Bang District, has a unique biodiversity and is home to rare and endangered species, such as one of the world’s most prized freshwater fish Asian arowana, 99% extinct Siamese crocodiles, tigers, Asian elephants, and pileated gibbons.

Cheay Areng Valley has recently emerged to be an ecotourism destination for those who love nature and adventure after the area became widely known by the controversial hydropower project called Cheay Areng Dam, which was opposed by the local communities, environmental movements, and NGOs. However, the access to the area is undeveloped and only homestay with the local indigenous communities is available.
