Kulèn Mount

Location: 48 km from Siem Reap Town and 25 km from Banteay Srei Temple

Date: the early 9th century (802)

Religion: Hindu and Buddhist

This mountain was established by King Jayavarman II in the early 9th century. It was named as Mahendraparvata during the Angkorean era. Afterwards, it became a worshipping place of Theravada Buddhists. During the ancient monumental constructional period, sandy stones were brought from this sacred mountain. The means of transport were bamboo-rafting and elephant-towing.

The Kulèn Mount is well known as a sacred place for the Cambodian people and as a historical, cultural, and natural tourist resort.
